Laureates of the 9th All-Russian Award “For Fidelity to Science” Announced
27th of October 2023
The Zarya dye Concert Hall hosted the award ceremony for the 9th All-Russian Award “For Fidelity to Science,” where the most talented popularizers of science and the best scientific media projects in Russia were recognized.
Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary of the President of Russia, was the first to congratulate the winners, particularly those in the “Science for the World” category.
“Science, in all countries, seeks to enhance sovereignty by glorifying and developing one's country, while also remaining open to benefiting from the achievements of colleagues around the world and adopting the best of what is developed elsewhere,” Mr. Peskov remarked.
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko emphasized that the “For Fidelity to Science” prize is one of the key projects of the Decade of Science and Technology, alongside the Congress of Young Scientists.
“We see the turnout: the large presence of journalists and media allows us to tell the world about Russia's scientific achievements of this year. And we see the impact: according to VTsIOM polls, 79% of our citizens are proud of the results of Russian scientists. Over 1,200 applications from 78 regions were submitted, the competition was incredibly intense, and now we are about to hear the names of the winners,” Mr. Chernyshenko said.
Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Valery Falkov, congratulated the laureates and participants of the award and highlighted the significant growth in the scale of the competition over the past three years. He attributed this expansion to the Year of Science and Technology, announced by President Vladimir Putin. While announcing the winners in the “Best Popular Science Student Project” category, Falkov mentioned that the jury had reviewed over 100 applications.
“This is a large number, placing the category third among all categories, but considering that there are 4.2 million students in Russia, I see even more tremendous potential here. Our goal is to increase these applications to the thousands, with many new winners,” he emphasized.
Mr. Falkov also noted that the Ministry of Education and Science is actively supporting student-led science and engineering initiatives. This year, following the President's directive, a competition for student scientific societies was held for the first time, with over 40 societies from various regions of Russia receiving special support.
